Just a couple of days after Qualcomm astonishingly refreshed its flagship Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, MediaTek will be holding an event at the end of this month in Shanghai to reveal its first gaming-centric SoC called the Helio G90. The teaser shared below wasn’t found on MediaTek’s official account weirdly but was shared by many Chinese media portals. There’s not a lot we know about the upcoming SoC but we expect it to be a close relative of the Helio P90 chip with a possibly better GPU.
The MediaTek Helio P90 is the latest chipset from the Taiwanese semiconductor company and it is based on the 12nm process featuring a PowerVR GM9446 GPU, sourced from once-Apple licensee Imagination Technologies.
MediaTek currently has three ranges in its portfolio. The flagship range is the MediaTek X series with products like the MediaTek Helio X30 and Helio X27. These chipsets represent the best fabrication processes that the company has and the best innovations. The second series is the Mediatek Helio P chipsets which are designed for slim profiles and high battery life. And lastly, there’s the MediaTek A series aimed at mid-tier phones. The MediaTek G series is a new range now, and one which we think is made to cater to the emerging mobile gaming segment in the industry. There’s still no launch date but we shouldn’t have to wait long as the end of this month is near.
