Meizu introduced the 16 and 16 Plus flagship smartphones in August last year. Both smartphones are powered by a 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and feature large Super AMOLED displays. The Chinese manufacturer is now planning to release a new gaming-focused smartphone, which could debut as the Meizu 16T. Meizu CEO Huang Zhang revealed the 16T name and a few other details regarding the upcoming smartphone while interacting with fans on Weibo.
Meizu 16T Gaming Smartphone to be Powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC
Like most upcoming flagship smartphones, the Meizu 16T gaming smartphone will be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. As various leaked benchmarks have shown recently, the Snapdragon 855 delivers a solid improvement in performance when compared to last year’s Snapdragon 845. Since it is built on a 7nm process, the chipset also brings higher efficiency. While most Snapdragon 855-powered smartphones are going to be priced in the premium segment, Meizu plans to position the 16T within the CNY 2500 mark ($370) in China. While the smartphone will be powered by a flagship Snapdragon 855 mobile processor, it will not be a proper flagship smartphone. Meizu has chosen to go with the Snapdragon 855 SoC to ensure that the gaming smartphone can deliver class-leading performance. In other areas, the Meizu 16T will likely not be as impressive as flagship-grade handsets. However, like most Meizu handsets, the upcoming 16T gaming smartphone will likely be sold only in China.
The Meizu CEO also asked fans if they preferred a 6.2-inch or 6.5-inch screen size. It is possible that the company currently has multiple prototypes with the screen size ranging from 6.2- to 6.5-inches. While the screen size has apparently not been finalized, he did say that the 16T will feature an all-screen design. The Meizu 16 and 16 Plus handsets use an 18:9 aspect ratio, so we can expect the 16T to have a significantly improved screen-to-body ratio. The battery capacity has not been finalized either, although Zhang did reveal that it could be between 4000 to 4500mAh.
Meizu 16s Price
Apart from sharing a few details regarding the 16T, Zhang confirmed the existence of the rumored Meizu 16s. While Zhang did not confirm any release timeframe, he did say that it will be priced CNY 500 higher than the standard Meizu 16. The Meizu 16 is currently listed at CNY 2,498 on the company’s official website, so we can expect the Meizu 16s to start at CNY 3,000 at launch. Rumors suggest the Meizu 16s will arrive with a 6.2-inch bezel-less display and run on a Snapdragon 845 SoC. Meizu 16s Plus, on the other hand, is tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC instead. It will also include NFC support and wireless charging support. Finally, the executive confirmed that Flyme 8 will be arriving later this year.
