Ahead of the anticipated Moto G8 series launch this week in Brazil, we’ve spotted the Moto G8 Plus on popular benchmarking platform Geekbench today. As usual, Motorola is expected to launch a trio of devices – Moto G8 Play, Moto G8, and Moto G8 Plus. Renders of the Moto G8 Play and Moto G8 Plus have already been making the rounds since last week, and it is believed Motorola is bringing a tear-drop notch design along with a quad-camera setup to the series.

Coming to the Geekbench measures, the Moto G8 Plus runs on “trinket” which is, in other words, the Snapdragon 665 SoC. If this is indeed the case, then this is a decent upgrade at best considering the Moto G7 Plus has a Snapdragon 636 SoC. The tested model has 4GB of RAM and still runs Android 9.0 which is surprising given Motorola’s close affinity to the Android One program. This is the first Moto G8 series device we’ve encountered on the benchmark and we might not need to see others as the launch is expected tomorrow. IF you’re wondering about the low scores, it’s probably because of Geekbench’s new v5.0.2 while we’ve gotten used to the older one.

Coming to previously leaked information, both the Moto G8 Plus and G8 Play look quite similar from the front as shown in renders leaked by tipster Evan Blass. The rear is where all the difference lies, at least visibly. The G8 Plus has a triple-camera setup in line with current trends while the G8 Play has a dual-camera setup. Exact sensor details are not known yet but rumours speak of a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor. There’s also a laser auto-focus sensor depicted in the render. Speculation suggests a 3.5mm audio jack, 6.3-inch display, USB Type-C port, Snapdragon 665 octa-core SoC, paired with 4GB RAM, and 4,000mAh battery on the bigger G8 Plus.
