Back in early June, Xiaomi released its Android Q beta roadmap with a handful of its premium devices set to get Android’s latest software in the first phase. This first phase of the beta included mostly flagship devices like the Xiaomi Mi 9 Mi MIX 3 5G, and later Redmi K20 Pro. Now, Xiaomi has finally commenced the public beta development of Android Q for the Redmi K20 Pro and the Mi 9, as per an MIUI official announcement. Xiaomi had started recruiting testers for the Android Q beta in early July and now we have a public beta build for users.

The beta version for Android Q comes with build version MIUI 10 9.8.8 and shows a changelog with just modest changes as of now. It mostly pertains to the┬áLock screen, status bar, and notification bar. And although we’ve referred to the automatically translated version, we’ve tried our best to interpret it well. The new update adds a new visual style to the notification bar. The screen capture page has been optimized along with the multi-task page. There are a number of bug fixes as well to the lock screen, the status bar, and the notification bar. Needless to say, this pertains to the Chinese version of the Redmi K20 Pro as this message was intended for the Chinese populace.

The Redmi K20 Pro ships with Android 9.0 Pie based on MIUI 10 and we’ve yet to see Redmi kick off a beta for it outside of Chinese regions. According to Xiaomi’s issued list of devices to get Android Q, last year’s entire flagship lineup should also get Android Q by the fourth quarter of 2019 along with the above-mentioned devices. As for regions like India, we should expect an official announcement from Xiaomi’s India channels on Twitter soon.
