At today’s announcement of the Redmi 8 series in China, Xiaomi’s sub-brand made some other big announcements unrelated to smartphones as well. One of them was a teaser for an upcoming RedmiBook with an AMD processor. The teaser only showed the launch date as October 21 which means we will be able to see the notebook officially in a week. This is the first RedmiBook to feature an AMD CPU after the company just announced Intel-powered laptops a couple of months back.

Now, Redmi is known to price its products quite aggressively and that has been the case with laptops too as consumers get a great deal for around 4,300 Yuan on an Intel Core i7 machine. However, with AMD CPUs, we expect the prices of the laptops to go even lower than that and that is exactly what Redmi is also planning to do, we presume. For now, there’s no official declaration, however, the AMD version of RedmiBook is expected to be powered by the AMD R5 3500U processor, and the price will be could be around 300 Yuan less than the Intel version. Other brands such as Lenovo, Honor have also jumped the AMD bandwagon with their laptops, so to see Redmi do the same is less of a surprise.

Redmi’s current lineup of laptops is quite fresh and numbered as the company is a new entrant in the segment. The RedmiBook 14 comes with a 10th-gen Core i5 or Core i7 processor and there’s a maxed-out RedmiBook 14 Enhanced version as well with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD storage. In terms of other specifications, we don’t expect much to change. The RedmiBook has a 14-inch Full-HD display, a 45Wh battery, a couple of 1.5W speakers and starts at 3,999 Yuan.
