Samsung recently started rolling out the Android Pie update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones in Northern Europe. In the coming weeks, the update is expected to be rolled out in other regions as well. While Samsung has only rolled out the Pie update for its flagship models so far, quite a few budget and mid-range Galaxy smartphones are set to receive the update starting in April, including the Galaxy J6+. The budget Galaxy smartphone has now been spotted on the Geekbench database running Android 9.0 Pie, which suggests the update will begin rolling out as scheduled. It should be noted that the smartphone received Wi-Fi certification with Android 9.0 Pie earlier this month.
Samsung Galaxy J6+ Android Pie Update to Begin Rolling Out in April
As mentioned earlier, the latest Android Pie roadmap from Samsung revealed the Galaxy J6+ would receive the Android Pie update beginning in April. This means even though the SM-J610F variant of the Galaxy J6+ has been spotted on the Geekbench database, it does not suggest the update will begin rolling out soon. However, it does confirm that Samsung is working on the Android Pie update for the smartphone currently and no delay is expected. The SM-J610F variant caught on Geekbench scored 650 points in the single-core test and 1,803 points in the multi-core test.
The Samsung Galaxy J6+ was launched in September last year with the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. Since it is a budget device, there is a good chance that the Pie update will be the only major OS upgrade that Samsung will be rolling out for the Galaxy J6+. The smartphone sports a 6-inch Infinity Display with 720 x 1480 HD+ resolution and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz with an Adreno 308 GPU. The Galaxy J6+ also has a 13MP + 5MP dual-camera setup on the back with a dedicated microSD card slot for further storage expansion. Rest of its key specifications include an 8MP selfie camera with an f/1.9 aperture, 3300mAh non-removable battery, Dolby Atmos, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
